11 New Private Universities Licensed By NUC

The National Universities Commission (NUC) will today, Wednesday, issue provisional licenses to 11 newly approved private universities, raising the number of licensed private universities in Nigeria to 159.

This development was announced in a notice sent to correspondents in Abuja, which read: “The NUC will issue provisional licenses to 11 new private universities at the NUC auditorium by 3:00pm.”

Earlier this year, the Federal Government placed a temporary ban on issuing new licenses to private universities. However, it clarified that applications already in advanced stages of review would continue to be considered and approved, provided they met all necessary requirements.

The newly licensed institutions include:

  1. New City University, Ayetoro, Ogun State

  2. University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State

  3. Eranova University, Mabushi, FCT

  4. Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun State (Annexe)

  5. Abubakar Toyin University, Oke-Agba, Kwara State

  6. Southern Atlantic University, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State

  7. Lens University, Ilemona, Kwara State

  8. Monarch University, Iyesi-Ota, Ogun State

  9. Tonnie Iredia University of Communication, Benin City, Edo State

  10. Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, Lagos

  11. Kevin Eze University, Mgbowo, Enugu State
