An Edo State High Court sitting in Igarra, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, on Wednesday declared the impeachment of the elected chairman, Taju Alade, as illegal and ordered his immediate reinstatement.

Delivering the ruling, Justice B.A. Okoh held that the court has the jurisdiction to hear the matter—rejecting the state government’s challenge on jurisdiction—and directed the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure Alade receives adequate security to resume office.

In his declarative judgment, Justice Okoh emphasized that due process was not followed in Alade’s removal, rendering the impeachment null and void.
