In a heartfelt interview with Apple Music 1’s Ebro Darden, Afrobeats star Davido opened up about the emotional journey of losing his son, Ifeanyi, and the powerful resemblance he sees in his newborn twin son.
Describing the similarity as “scary,” Davido shared how the tragic loss in 2022 deeply affected him and led him to take a step back from public life.
“That type of loss makes you feel like, ‘I’m out.’ I just wanted to focus on my wife, my family, and getting my mind right,” he said.
Ifeanyi tragically drowned in November 2022, plunging the singer and his wife, Chioma, into a period of mourning. They quietly married shortly after, and in October 2023, they welcomed twins.
Reflecting on the moment, Davido said, “The boy looks just like my son that passed. It’s scary — like literally him. We were like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back.’”
Now a father of twins, Davido said the experience has brought him closer to his faith and transformed how he approaches life and music.
“To come back from that and be blessed with twins… it just shows God is real,” he added.
The journey, he said, has made him more empathetic and intentional, not only in his personal life but also in how he connects with fans and shares his story through music.
