Oseloka Obaze, a close ally of Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, has resigned from the party, citing irregularities in its recent Anambra governorship primary.
In a letter addressed to the LP Chairman of Ochuche Ward 406 in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Obaze announced his resignation, expressing deep dissatisfaction with the conduct of the April 5, 2025 primary election held in Awka.
“The processes, conduct, and outcome of the Labour Party governorship primaries were riddled with irregularities bordering on fraud and criminality,” he wrote. “They violated the party’s constitution, values, and democratic principles. I therefore disassociate myself from the Labour Party.”
Obaze, a former United Nations diplomat and Secretary to the Anambra State Government under Obi, played a significant role in Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign and was a key figure in the Obidient Movement.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Obaze confirmed the authenticity of his letter, stating it speaks for itself. He also cited unresolved leadership disputes within the LP, particularly the conflict between Julius Abure and Senator Nenadi Usman factions, as part of his decision to leave.
Obaze previously resigned from the PDP in 2022, shortly before joining Labour alongside Obi. He did not disclose his future political plans.
