Speaking on the Senate floor in his welcome-back address titled “Rising to Nigeria’s Moment”, Akpabio cited the soaring cost of living, instability in the energy sector, and ongoing insecurity as urgent issues requiring decisive legislative action.
“Distinguished Senators, while we were away, much has unfolded. Our people are stretched thin by economic hardship. The rising cost of living, energy sector instability, and regional insecurity are not just challenges—they are calls to action,” he said.
Akpabio emphasized the need for synergy with the Executive, led by President Bola Tinubu, in confronting Nigeria’s multifaceted crises. He highlighted ongoing violence in the South-East and North-West, the farmer-herder conflict in the North-Central, and unresolved environmental and resource issues in the South-South as pressing concerns.
These are not mere headlines—they are open wounds in our republic. Our people are not waiting for speeches; they are waiting for solutions,” he stressed.
Referencing recent national conversations on electoral and judicial reforms, Akpabio reminded the Senate that Nigerians—and the world—are closely observing their actions. He urged members to transcend partisanship, warning that history will remember how they responded.
We are under watch—by our constituents, by the world, and by history. Let every decision we make reflect integrity and patriotism,” he declared.
Looking ahead, Akpabio outlined a legislative agenda focused on security, economic resilience, education, technology, and youth empowerment. He called for purposeful oversight to enhance the performance of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Let us debate, not divide. Govern with grace, not grudge. To Nigerians, I say: your Senate is back, committed to your hopes, struggles, and demand for change.
He concluded with a solemn invocation: “So help us God.”
