The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, is mourning the loss of his mother-in-law, Hajiya Rahama, who passed away on Friday at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, Zaria, following a brief illness.

Hajiya Rahama, mother of Hajiya Hussaina—Speaker Abbas’ first wife—was buried at the Tukur-Tukur cemetery in Zaria after Friday prayers. The burial was attended by family members, political figures, traditional leaders from the Zazzau Emirate, and religious clerics.

In a statement by Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, her younger brother and a director at the Northern Elders Forum, Hajiya Rahama was remembered as a nurturing, selfless woman who had a deep impact on her family and community.

Speaker Abbas paid tribute to her, saying, “She was more than a mother-in-law to me—she was a mother in every sense. A virtuous woman, peacemaker, and a symbol of unity whose legacy of love, tolerance, and compassion will never be forgotten.”

He urged the public to keep the family in their prayers and to honor her memory by embracing the values she lived by.
