Pastor David Favour Love, husband of the late Shimite Love, has spoken publicly for the first time following her untimely death and the controversy surrounding it.
Shimite, 48, who served as the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export, died in the early hours of Monday, April 21, 2025. Her passing has since been surrounded by allegations of domestic violence, with some reports suggesting foul play.
According to the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, Shimite’s family filed a formal complaint, raising suspicions about her husband’s possible involvement. In response, Pastor Love was placed in protective custody after reporting that he had received threats from his late wife’s family.
Pastor Love told the police that Shimite fell ill and died. However, as speculation continues to mount, he took to Instagram on Tuesday, May 20, to mourn his wife and defend himself.
In a series of emotional posts, he described Shimite as his “personal and special Angel,” and stated that he would no longer remain silent amid what he called fabrications surrounding her death.
“I’m done keeping quiet,” he wrote. “I will release all the proof about the events that led to her death for anyone willing to expose the truth.”
He alleged that Shimite’s family broke into their home, stole their marriage certificate, and attempted to discredit their union. He further claimed that a registrar in Abuja confessed to being pressured by her family to deny the marriage.
“They want to bury you and discredit the Delta State government. They think they can hide the truth, but everything is documented. The world will know,” he said.
Expressing his grief, Pastor Love added, “I can’t say goodbye. This is too much for me. You’ll forever have a place in my heart.”
The police have not issued further updates on the investigation
