British boxer Georgia O’Connor has tragically passed away at the age of 25.
O’Connor, who claimed gold for England at the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games, had been battling cancer following a diagnosis in October 2024. Just two weeks before her death, she shared on Instagram that she had married her partner, Adriano, and taken his surname, becoming Georgia Cardinali.
A rising talent in the sport, O’Connor also represented Team Great Britain and competed on the high-profile Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall undercard at the O2 Arena in 2022.
In a heartfelt tribute, promotional company BOXXER released a statement saying: We are heartbroken by the passing of Georgia O’Connor. A true warrior inside and outside the ring, the boxing community has lost a talented, courageous, and determined young woman far too soon. Georgia was loved, respected, and admired by her friends here at BOXXER.
Our thoughts are with her loved ones at this difficult time.
