The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is set to start building a new headquarters for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja. The facility will be located in Maitama, one of the city’s prestigious districts.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, confirmed the project and announced that President Bola Tinubu will officially launch the construction next week.
This project is part of a wider FCTA initiative to celebrate President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office by inaugurating completed infrastructure and starting new developments across the capital.
Recent and ongoing major projects include the renovation of the Abuja International Conference Centre, the construction of new bus terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi, and upgrades to key roads such as Apo-Wassa Road and the N16 interchange.
Other significant roadworks involve connections from Maitama through Katampe to Jahi, the Inner Northern Expressway from Ring Road 3 (Idu to Kubwa Road), the CN8 road linking N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Court of Appeal, the N20 flyover on Kubwa Road, and the stretch from Life Camp Junction to Ring Road III.
Additional infrastructure projects include the Kabusa-Takushara and Kabusa-Ketti access roads, a new road in Giri District, a 15-kilometer road linking A2 Junction on Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pai in Kwali Area Council, as well as several road developments in Ushafa, War College, and the Army Checkpoint in Bwari Area Council.
