AC Milan have parted ways with head coach Sergio Conceição just six months into his tenure, following a disappointing end to the 2024/25 season.
The 50-year-old Portuguese manager took over in December after the dismissal of Paulo Fonseca, signing an 18-month contract. He made an immediate impact by winning the Italian Super Cup just a week into the job. However, Milan’s form quickly faltered. The club suffered a Coppa Italia final defeat to Bologna and slumped to an eighth-place finish in Serie A—missing out on European qualification entirely.
Meanwhile, city rivals Inter are set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final this weekend, highlighting the gulf that opened between the Milan clubs under Conceição’s leadership.
In a brief statement, AC Milan confirmed the decision:
AC Milan and Sergio Conceição will not continue their journey together next season.
The Club would like to thank Sergio and his staff for their commitment, professionalism, and dedication during their time with the First Team.
We part ways with the coach who delivered the 50th trophy in our Club’s history, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
According to multiple reports in Italy, Massimiliano Allegri is set to return to the San Siro as Conceição’s replacement. The 57-year-old previously managed Milan from 2010 to 2014, guiding them to a Serie A title in the 2010–11 season. He later enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Juventus, winning five league titles.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported earlier today that Allegri has agreed terms to rejoin Milan. He has been out of work since parting ways with Juventus at the end of the 2023–24 campaign.
