ADC Declares Three Days Of National Mourning In Honour Of Buhari

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared a three-day national mourning period to honour the legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in London.

In a statement issued Monday in Kano, the party’s Interim National Chairman, Senator David Mark, announced the suspension of all political activities at both national and state levels during the mourning period.

Senator Mark praised Buhari’s lifelong service to Nigeria, both as a soldier and as a civilian leader.

“President Muhammadu Buhari was a statesman of exceptional character. As a soldier, he fought to preserve Nigeria’s unity and territorial integrity. As a democratically elected president, he played a key role in strengthening our democracy,” he said.

Mark described Buhari’s leadership as one defined by discipline, patriotism, and commitment to national service. He also urged the Federal Government to immortalise Buhari through national monuments or institutions that reflect the values he upheld.

“His legacy deserves to be permanently remembered. The ADC extends its deepest condolences to the Buhari family, the Government of Nigeria, and all citizens mourning this great loss,” the statement added.

Party members and supporters nationwide have been asked to observe the mourning period with solemnity and respect.
