Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has announced a 26-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Unity Cup in London, marking the return of veteran forward Ahmed Musa. This will be Musa’s first appearance for the national team since January 2024, and he resumes his role as team captain.
The squad is a mix of fringe players and home-based talents, as many of Nigeria’s Europe-based regulars have been rested ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Notable absentees include Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Ademola Lookman, Calvin Bassey, and Alex Iwobi.
Nine players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have been included, providing a valuable opportunity for local talent to showcase their abilities on the international stage.
Werder Bremen’s Felix Agu has also joined the team for training but will not feature in matches due to unresolved documentation.
The 2025 Unity Cup will be held from May 26 to 31 at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium in London. Participating nations include Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. Nigeria will face long-time rivals Ghana on May 28.
Following the tournament, most NPFL players will return to Nigeria. Regulars like Victor Boniface, Ola Aina, and William Troost-Ekong are expected to rejoin the squad for a friendly match against Russia scheduled for June 6 in Moscow.
