Akpabio Cheers Tinubu: ‘I Wish I Were Governor Today’ As Fuel Subsidy Removal Boosts Allocations For Governors

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the removal of the fuel subsidy.

Akpabio noted that, as a result of the subsidy removal, many current governors now receive four times the funding he had access to from the Federal Government when he served as governor of Akwa Ibom State. He added that he wished he had been a governor under the current administration.

He stated:

Some say we are rubber-stamp senators, but we carefully scrutinize every proposal that comes before us. We meticulously review all submissions to ensure they serve the best interests of Nigerians, even if public perception initially differs.

We are grateful for the tax reforms and the removal of the fuel subsidy. How I wish I were a governor under your administration. Many of the current governors now receive four times what we used to.
