The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has strongly refuted claims that President Bola Tinubu has relieved him of his duties, describing such reports as false and without foundation.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Director of Press and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, Akume affirmed that President Tinubu has no intention of removing him from office.
“The information is entirely false, misleading, and baseless. Mr. President has no intention whatsoever of doing so,” the statement read.
Senator Akume described the rumours as fabrications fueled by mischief-makers aiming to mislead the public. He emphasized that President Tinubu continues to have full confidence in his ability to carry out the responsibilities of the office, particularly in advancing the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The President has unwavering confidence in the SGF’s capacity to formulate and implement key policies and programmes aligned with the goals of this administration,” the statement noted.
The SGF called on the public, media houses, and online platforms to disregard the unfounded claims and to exercise caution by verifying the authenticity of information before sharing it.
“Disseminating unverified or deliberately false information not only misleads the public but also undermines trust in our institutions,” the statement warned.
Imohiosen further referenced a recent clarification by President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, which corroborated the SGF office’s position.
“In light of this, Senator Dr. George Akume, CON, remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement concluded.
