Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign long-time target Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
The Spanish defensive midfielder has been on the club’s radar for over a year, with negotiations effectively concluded during the winter transfer window. According to Fabrizio Romano, Zubimendi has now verbally agreed to a long-term deal with the Gunners, who are prepared to activate his £51 million release clause.
The 26-year-old will be the first signing under new sporting director Andrea Berta, who joined from Atletico Madrid in March after the departure of Edu and the brief interim role held by Jason Ayto.
Widely regarded as one of Europe’s top midfield talents, Zubimendi played a key role in Spain’s victorious Euro 2024 campaign and is expected to bring strength and stability to Arsenal’s midfield.
