Barcelona have announced they will return to the revamped Camp Nou on August 10 for the annual Joan Gamper Trophy match, marking a symbolic homecoming after years of renovation.
The fixture will serve as a partial reopening of the iconic stadium, which remains under construction. According to a club statement on Wednesday, work is still ongoing on several key areas, including the new third tier, a dual VIP ring, the roof, interior facilities, and the surrounding infrastructure.
While the club has not officially disclosed the stadium’s temporary capacity, local reports suggest around 35,000 fans will be able to attend the match.
“Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era,” the club said, emphasizing that the full inauguration will come later.
To allow more time for construction, Barça have requested to play their first three La Liga matches of the upcoming season away from home.
The “Espai Barça” project, which began in 2023, has faced several delays but is expected to be completed by summer 2026. Once finished, the new Camp Nou will hold up to 105,000 spectators.
In the meantime, the team has been playing its home games at the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium
