Barcelona’s teenage sensation, Lamine Yamal, has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay until June 30, 2031. The agreement was announced by the Catalan giants on Tuesday, following a phenomenal season from the 17-year-old winger.
“Barcelona and Lamine Yamal have reached a deal to extend his contract to June 30, 2031,” the club confirmed in a statement. “His renewal is a testament to the strength of Barça’s long-term vision. Yamal’s rise has been meteoric, beginning with his debut on April 29, 2023, at just 15 years old.”
Now one of the cornerstones of the team, Yamal played a pivotal role in helping Barcelona clinch a domestic treble—winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. His dynamic performances throughout the campaign have reportedly earned him a substantial new deal, making him one of the highest-paid players at the club.
After lifting the Euro 2024 trophy with Spain, Yamal returned to Barcelona and delivered an extraordinary season: scoring 18 goals and providing 25 assists in 55 matches across all competitions. His explosive pace and dazzling dribbling from the right wing were key to the team’s attacking prowess, as Barcelona netted 102 goals in La Liga to reclaim the title from arch-rivals Real Madrid.
A product of the famed La Masia academy, Yamal is often likened to club legend Lionel Messi. He made his senior debut under Xavi Hernández at 15 and quickly became the team’s standout attacking threat during a season that otherwise ended without European silverware.
Despite Barcelona’s narrow 7-6 aggregate defeat to Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-finals, Yamal delivered two standout performances. After the exit, he vowed to bring the trophy back to Camp Nou: “I will keep my promise—we won’t stop until we win the Champions League.”
Yamal, who turns 18 in July, has already made over 100 appearances for the club—an astonishing milestone for a player of his age. He recently joined teammate Raphinha and coach Hansi Flick in extending his contract, signaling a new era of stability and ambition at the club.
According to Spanish media, Yamal’s new deal includes performance-based bonuses, including incentives for winning the Ballon d’Or. The winger is already considered a frontrunner for the award this year, underlining his rapid ascent to the elite of world football.
