The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has officially confirmed Pastor Peter Akpe as the state’s new Deputy Governor. Prior to his appointment, Akpe served as Chief of Staff to Governor Duoye Diri.
The confirmation took place during the assembly’s plenary session on Tuesday morning, February 24, 2026.
Akpe’s nomination follows the sudden death of the former Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who collapsed and passed away in his office on December 11, 2025.
