Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Board of Trustees member, Chief Olabode George, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of deliberately destabilizing the party and collaborating with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV on Friday, George described Wike as a “loose cannon” whose actions threaten the PDP’s unity and future. He criticized Wike for allegedly disregarding the party’s internal structure and processes.
George emphasized that all party committees, including reconciliation efforts led by figures like Bukola Saraki, ultimately report to the National Executive Committee (NEC), which holds the highest authority after the national convention.
He blamed the party’s prolonged inability to convene a NEC meeting — due in part to disputes like the one involving the party’s secretary who ran for governor without resigning — for contributing to the party’s ongoing internal turmoil. However, he confirmed that those procedural issues have now been resolved, and a crucial NEC meeting is scheduled for July 23.
“He seems like a loose cannon hell-bent on destroying the party. In fact, he appears to be working closely with the APC,” George alleged, calling for Wike to be held accountable through due party processes. While Wike, as a BOT member, cannot simply be dismissed, George insisted that mechanisms exist to ensure discipline and accountability.
The upcoming NEC meeting is expected to be a turning point for the PDP, with key issues — including Wike’s alleged anti-party conduct — set to be addressed. George expressed confidence that by adhering to its constitution, the party can recover and reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
