The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Borno State Command, ACP Abubakar Balteh, has died.
In a brief statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed that Balteh passed away on February 21, 2026, following a fatal road accident.
“The Borno State Police Command regrets to announce the passing of ACP Abubakar A. Balteh, who died today, 21st February, 2026, in a fatal vehicle accident,” the statement read. “Until his death, he served diligently as the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Borno State Command.”
Daso said further details regarding funeral arrangements would be made public in due course, praying that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him eternal rest.
The development comes just months after the Command lost another senior officer. In November 2025, Daso announced the death of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, DCP Ahmed Ibn Umar, who died at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital after a prolonged illness.
At the time, the Command described Umar as a dedicated officer who served faithfully as Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, Borno State Command, and prayed for the repose of his soul.
