Bukar Dalori, Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has assumed office as the acting National Chairman of the ruling party following the unexpected resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje on Friday.

Although the reason for Ganduje’s resignation has not been officially confirmed, party insiders suggest it may be tied to internal political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections—particularly discussions around the vice-presidential ticket.

One party source noted that since the vice-presidential slot may remain in the North-West, where Ganduje is from, the party chairmanship could be reassigned to another region in line with zoning principles. The APC had initially zoned the chairmanship to the North-Central.

Under Section 14(2)(iii) of the APC Constitution, the Deputy National Chairman is empowered to take over in the absence of the National Chairman, especially if from the same geopolitical zone. Dalori has now stepped into the role.

Staff at the APC national secretariat were reportedly surprised to see Ganduje’s personal belongings being quietly removed from his office.

Meanwhile, discussions are already underway to appoint a substantive chairman, with former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, said to be a top contender.

Al-Makura is top of that list, as far as I know, a party insider disclosed.
