Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has publicly outlined how he wants his funeral to be conducted, declaring that he should be buried within one month of his death and that his body should be handed over to the Ekiti State Government.
Fayose made the revelation in a video played during his 65th birthday celebration on Saturday, November 15. The clip, which highlighted some of his achievements, also featured his personal instructions regarding his burial.
In the footage, Fayose emphasized the inevitability of death and said his body should be managed by the state government whenever the time comes.
“Remember me for anything. And when I die, let me say this: death is inevitable. My body belongs to the Ekiti State government,” he said.
“Ekiti state government takes over my body, and I must be buried within four weeks; because the state might not be ready within two or three days, we will allow them four weeks.”
Fayose also instructed that his family should mourn privately and that his children should wear their own clothes during the burial, following the government’s arrangements.
He revealed he has already chosen his final resting place:
“There’s a triangle in my grandmother’s home, the mother of my father; I’ve made the garden there. I should be laid to rest.
After my departure, nobody must come there again. Allow me to go. If you want to show me love… do so now.”
Fayose, who turned 65, served as Ekiti State governor twice — from 2003 to 2006 and again from 2014 to 2018 — under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulated him, describing Fayose as a bold and consistent political figure.
“Whether right or wrong, former governor Fayose is never afraid to say his mind,” the President said in a statement, adding that he valued Fayose’s support for his administration.
Tinubu prayed for Fayose’s continued good health and for greater purpose in his service to humanity.
