Chelsea have officially announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Dario Essugo from Sporting CP on a long-term deal.
The Blues agreed a €22.3 million fee with Sporting earlier this year, and the 20-year-old has now signed a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until June 2033.
Essugo is expected to join Chelsea’s squad for their upcoming pre-season tour of the United States later this month.
The talented midfielder spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Spanish side Las Palmas, where he impressed despite the team’s relegation from La Liga, making 27 appearances across all competitions.
Essugo made headlines in March 2021 when he became the youngest player ever to debut for Sporting CP at just 16 years and six days old. Since then, he has featured regularly for Portugal across all youth levels, from U15s up to U21s.
Chelsea’s transfer activity is set to continue, with Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap also on the verge of joining. The 21-year-old has completed his medical and agreed terms on a £30 million move.
