Chelsea will attempt to make European football history on Wednesday night when they face Spanish side Real Betis in the UEFA Europa Conference League final at Stadion Wroclaw in Poland.
Under new head coach Enzo Maresca, the Blues are bidding to become the first club to win all five major UEFA competitions. Having already claimed the Champions League, Europa League, Cup Winners’ Cup, and UEFA Super Cup, the Conference League is the only continental trophy missing from Chelsea’s cabinet.
Chelsea enter the final as strong favourites after a late surge in their Premier League campaign secured them a Champions League place with a narrow 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest. Their European form has been equally impressive, winning 11 of their 12 matches in the competition and amassing a dominant goal difference of 38–9.
Real Betis, managed by seasoned tactician Manuel Pellegrini, are appearing in a European final for the first time in the club’s history. The Andalusian outfit finished sixth in La Liga and booked their place in the final after a dramatic extra-time win over Fiorentina in the semi-finals.
Despite their historic run, Betis will need a significant step up in performance to overcome Chelsea. They struggled against Polish opposition earlier in the tournament—losing 1-0 to Legia Warsaw and drawing 1-1 with Jagiellonia Bialystok—raising questions about their readiness for this challenge.
Chelsea’s squad receives a timely boost with the return of Christopher Nkunku, who is back in training after missing the last six games due to injury. Striker Nicolas Jackson is also available, with his Premier League suspension not affecting European fixtures. However, Marcus Bettinelli, Wesley Fofana, Aaron Anselmino, and Romeo Lavia are not eligible for the competition, though they’ve travelled with the squad for support.
The final kicks off at 8:00 p.m. BST (9:00 p.m. local time) in the 40,000-seat Stadion Wroclaw. Fans can watch the match live on various official broadcasters and streaming platforms.
If the match is tied after 90 minutes, extra time and potentially a penalty shootout will decide the winner. VAR will be in use, and all non-suspension yellow cards were reset after the quarter-finals.
The winner of the final will earn a spot in the league stage of the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League. However, Chelsea have already secured Champions League qualification, while Betis are guaranteed a Europa League berth via their domestic league position.
