R&B star Chris Brown appeared at Southwark Crown Court in London on Tuesday for a plea hearing related to an alleged nightclub assault. The 36-year-old singer has been charged with attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent during an incident at Tape, a private members’ club in Mayfair, on February 19, 2023.

Brown, wearing a brown suit with a red and white tie, arrived at court ahead of his trial scheduled for October. He previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.

His co-defendant, 39-year-old U.S. national Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded not guilty to the same charge. Both men face an additional charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Brown is also accused of possessing an offensive weapon—a bottle—in a public place.

The alleged victim, Abraham Diaw, was reportedly struck multiple times with a bottle while at the club’s bar, then chased to another area where he was punched and kicked.

Despite the case, the two-time Grammy winner has continued his international tour, performing in Cardiff in June. He remains on conditional bail, which required a £5 million security payment to the court as a guarantee of his return.

Brown was arrested by Metropolitan Police officers at Manchester’s Lowry Hotel on May 15 and later released from HMP Forest Bank on May 21.
