The Ikorodu High Court in Lagos State has approved three international laboratories to conduct DNA tests aimed at determining the paternity of Liam, the son of late Nigerian singer Mohbad.
According to proceedings at the resumed hearing, the court selected two laboratories in the United Kingdom and one in the United States. The selection reportedly included one laboratory nominated by each party, while the court independently chose the third to ensure neutrality.
Liam’s paternity has been publicly disputed by Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer. Mr Aloba has repeatedly stated that Mohbad’s remains will not be reburied until a DNA test is conducted to confirm the child’s paternity. Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, died on September 27, 2023.
Speaking to journalists after the court session, counsel to Mr Aloba confirmed the development, stating that the matter has been adjourned to April 7 to allow parties report on the collection of samples. He explained that arrangements would be made with welfare officers to supervise and monitor the sample collection process, with all parties present.
The lawyer added that the Aloba family would ensure representation at each of the approved laboratories where the samples will be delivered and analysed.
The case, which involves Mr Aloba and Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi Aloba, continues to draw public attention as legal steps move forward.
