Cristiano Ronaldo Set To Announce Al-Nassr Exit After Rejecting £167M-A-Year Deal

Superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly set to part ways with Al-Nassr, with the Saudi club expected to confirm his departure in an official announcement today, according to Spanish outlet Marca.

Speculation about Ronaldo’s future intensified on Monday when the 39-year-old hinted at an imminent exit in a cryptic social media post following Al-Nassr’s third-place finish in the Saudi Pro League.

This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all, Ronaldo wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The Portuguese icon’s next destination remains uncertain, but potential options include a move to Major League Soccer (MLS), Brazil, Turkey, a return to Sporting Lisbon, or even a switch to another Saudi club.

Ronaldo was reportedly close to agreeing a £167 million-per-year extension with Al-Nassr before unexpectedly reversing course. During his stint in Saudi Arabia, he scored an impressive 99 goals in all competitions.

Meanwhile, UK-based outlet talkSPORT reports that Al-Nassr is already eyeing replacements, with Liverpool’s Luis Díaz emerging as a top target. The Colombian winger, whose current contract runs until 2027, could be part of the club’s ambitious efforts to recruit top talent from the Premier League.

Despite approaching 40, Ronaldo remains driven by personal milestones—most notably his goal of reaching 1,000 career goals. He currently stands at 936, and achieving that feat may require at least two more seasons of consistent goal-scoring.

Rumors also suggest Ronaldo could join Saudi rivals Al-Hilal, who will compete in the upcoming revamped FIFA Club World Cup. Adding fuel to the speculation, FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently teased the possibility of Ronaldo appearing in the tournament, despite Al-Nassr not qualifying.

Ronaldo might play for one of the teams at the Club World Cup, Infantino said. There are discussions… If any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup—who knows?

If confirmed, Ronaldo’s departure marks the end of a high-profile chapter in his career and could spark a major reshuffling of talent in the Saudi Pro League.
