Cross River: Hon Victor Abang Leads Peace Initiative For Boje, Isobendeghe Communities

In his determination and commitment towards seeing to the end of the age-long dispute over land ownership between the people of Boje and Isobendeghe, the lawmaker representing Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Abang, on Monday, led traditional and political leaders from Boki Local Government Area (LGA) to a meeting with senior officials of Cross River State government in Calabar, the state capital.

The meeting, according to Hon Abang, was part of an ongoing effort that sought to foster a path towards permanent peace between the Boje and Isobendeghe communities in Boki LGA.

In a statement, the parliamentarian, a respected politician and pragmatic leader acknowledged as an advocate for peace and unity, said:

“Today, I led traditional and political leaders from Boki Local Government Area to meet with senior government officials in Calabar, Cross River State, to chart a path toward lasting peace between the Boje and Isobendeghe communities.

“This ongoing initiative—driven by the Government of Cross River State, my office, and the Boki Local Government—aims to find a permanent solution to the perennial land dispute in our homeland.

“As you may recall, the Boje and Isobendeghe communities have been locked in a historic land conflict that has tragically claimed lives—an outcome that remains wholly condemnable in this modern age.

“We are hopeful that, with the timely intervention of our peace-loving and forward-thinking Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu, this long search for stability and reconciliation among our people will finally reach its desired conclusion.”

Hon Abang, who is believed to have demonstrated proactive leadership and quality representation since he became the representative of the people Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber in June 2023, has been widely applauded for the significant role he is playing in putting an end to the land dispute that has lasted for years between the two communities.

His prompt response to issues that affect his constituents and efforts to always ensure that they get whatever that is due to the Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency has led to his endorsement for a second term by his people who are pleased with his representation.
