Don’t Spray Money – E-Money Warns After Efcc Arrest

?Respect the Law? ? E-money speaks out after EFCC arrested him over Naira spraying

Prominent businessman and socialite Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money, has spoken out following his recent arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The arrest was linked to allegations of currency abuse involving the spraying of Naira and foreign currency at public events.

E-Money was reportedly taken from his residence in Lagos and transported to Abuja for questioning after viral videos surfaced showing him spraying money at social gatherings—an act that contravenes the Central Bank of Nigeria’s regulations on currency handling. He was released later the same day.

Shortly after his release, E-Money addressed the incident on social media, posting a video along with a cautionary message:

Attention! The EFCC reminds us: Spraying Naira (or any currency) at parties/events is against the law! Let’s celebrate responsibly and avoid fines. Respect our currency!

He further advised:

If you must give money at a party, make sure you put it in a basket or in a bowl or container in front of the person… Ignorance is not going to be an excuse.

The post triggered mixed reactions online—some applauded E-Money for his calm response, while others criticized the EFCC for what they perceive as selective enforcement of the law.

This incident adds E-Money to a growing list of public figures facing scrutiny for ostentatious displays of wealth involving cash at events.
