Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved a ₦1 billion bursary scheme for students of Edo origin studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The announcement was made in a statement on Sunday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, following a recent town hall meeting with youths in the state. According to the statement, the governor responded positively to the appeals of youth leaders who had called for financial support to assist Edo indigenes pursuing higher education.
“The bursary initiative, approved just eight months into Governor Okpebholo’s tenure, is intended to become an annual intervention to reduce the financial burden on students and their families,” the statement read.
Eligibility will be determined through proper verification with applicants’ local government areas to ensure only genuine indigenes benefit. The governor emphasized that the programme aligns with his administration’s broader vision to promote access to quality education, support academic excellence, and empower Edo youths for meaningful contributions to state and national development.
Further information on application processes and deadlines will be released by the appropriate government agencies in due course.
