EFCC arrests 93 suspected internet fraudsters at Abeokuta party

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of 93 youths suspected to be internet fraudsters during a late-night raid in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Reports indicate the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Sunday at the Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza party, held at the OOPL Rounda fun spot. A viral video showed chaotic scenes as partygoers fled in panic.

The Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, confirmed the incident but withheld details, stating, “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out and let you know.”

According to a statement on its official X account, the EFCC said the operation was carried out by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, following credible intelligence on the suspects’ alleged involvement in cybercrime. The raid led to the recovery of 18 vehicles and multiple mobile devices. The agency added that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.

The incident comes just days after EFCC operatives from the Ibadan Zonal Directorate arrested 56 suspected fraudsters at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. That raid also yielded two locally-made pistols, six luxury cars, 89 mobile phones, laptops, and incriminating documents.
