Eight life-sentenced inmates receive extra prison terms after staging a 10-hour mutiny at HMP Whitemoor.

Eight prisoners already serving life sentences have received additional jail terms after staging a violent 10-hour mutiny at HMP Whitemoor in Cambridgeshire.

The disturbance, which took place in October 2022, saw the inmates refuse to return to their cells after lunch, effectively taking control of a high-security wing. Authorities were forced to deploy a specialist national response team to restore order.

In an effort to prevent officers from intervening, the group poured oil, shower gel and shampoo across the landing corridor, creating a dangerously slippery surface. They also overturned furniture to barricade the top of a staircase and fashioned makeshift protective gear, including improvised helmets, to shield themselves from Pava spray and pyrotechnic devices.

Armed with broken table legs and kettles, the prisoners maintained their stand-off for several hours before retreating to the cell of one inmate, Korie Hassan, where they barricaded themselves in. Control of the wing was eventually regained at around 10pm when officers restrained the group.

At Cambridge Crown Court, the eight men were handed additional sentences, with the final ruling delivered on February 20. All new terms will run consecutively to their existing life sentences.

The additional sentences are as follows:

Rick-Champion Champion Musaba, 30 – four years for prison mutiny

Nicholas Bridge, 26 – three years and six months

Irwin Constable, 25 – three years and six months

Korie Hassan, 33 – three years and four months (after admitting violent disorder)

Dior Diego Jackson, 27 – one year and nine months

Bradley Blundell, 26 – 18 months

Troy Muschett-Thomas, 25 – 18 months

Jahliel Rose, 29 – one year and four months

The court heard that the coordinated uprising caused significant disruption inside the high-security facility, prompting a major security response.
