Joseph Faduri, a former presidential aspirant, on Saturday mocked the leadership of the Labour Party (LP) over its ongoing internal crisis, describing it as “karma.”
In a statement issued in Abuja, Faduri expressed his frustration, saying it was painful to watch the party deny him the presidential ticket in favor of Peter Obi, the LP candidate in the 2023 election.
His comments come amid a power struggle within the party, following a recent Supreme Court ruling. Three party leaders are now vying for control, with Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti rejecting the leadership of Julius Abure. They have insisted that the party’s leadership should shift to a National Caretaker Committee headed by former lawmaker Senator Nenadi Usman. Meanwhile, Alhaji Lamidi Apapa, the former Deputy Chairman of LP, has also made a bold return, claiming to be the rightful leader.
Faduri, who now leads the Rescue Movement for a New Nigeria, blamed the party’s current turmoil on the actions of its leaders, saying, “What is happening in the Labour Party today is nothing short of poetic justice, a karma unfolding before the very eyes of the nation.”
He continued, “This is the consequence of the injustice, betrayal, and deceit that were done to me and my team in 2022 when some leaders of the party conspired to rob me of the presidential ticket—an opportunity we worked tirelessly to build—and handed it over to Mr. Peter Obi.”
Faduri went on to explain that in 2022, the LP was in disarray, lacking structure and hope. He said he reached out to the party’s national leaders, rallied his team, invested resources, and helped reawaken what he called the “sleeping giant.”
He also stressed that his decision not to challenge the process in court was an act of patriotism, aimed at preventing further division within the party.
Recalling his political journey, Faduri revealed that he initially joined the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), which he claimed was eventually hijacked by Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement. This led him to seek a new platform, which ultimately brought him to the Labour Party.
