Fcta Staff Union Declares Three-Day Protest Over Unmet Welfare Demands

The Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has declared a three-day protest from Monday, June 30 to Wednesday, July 2, 2025, citing the FCT Minister’s “blatant refusal” to address long-standing issues affecting staff welfare and rights.

In a statement titled “PROTEST!!! PROTEST!!! PROTEST!!!” released on Thursday, JUAC President Rifkatu Iortyer directed all members and affiliate unions to mobilise and converge at the Minister’s Main Gate in Area 11, Garki, by 7:00 a.m. each day.

“The protest is against the blatant refusal of the FCT Minister to address salient issues affecting staff,” Iortyer said.

The union’s grievances include the non-promotion of staff since 2023, salary administration challenges, unpaid entitlements, and the demand for structural reforms within the administration. They are also protesting alleged illegal deductions and poor staff welfare.

Iortyer added, “The Chairman, FCT Civil Service Commission, must go. We say no to overseeing directors’ positions.”

Additional demands outlined in the statement include the domestication of IPPIS, accessibility of the salary portal for desk officers, release of overhead funding (unpaid since December 2024), cessation of National Housing Fund (NHF) deductions, and payment of wage award arrears and hazard allowances for health workers.

The union also raised concerns over the lack of staff training, the increasing number of out-of-school pupils in FCTA-run primary schools, and the non-payment of enforcement squad personnel in the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB).

“All members of staff are advised to gather at the Minister’s main gate in Area 11 to drive home their demands,” the statement concluded.
