The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has officially inaugurated the National E-Invoicing Solution Inter-Agency Steering Committee, marking a significant step toward enhancing tax compliance, transparency, and efficiency in Nigeria’s tax system.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, via the agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The event, held at the FIRS headquarters in Abuja, featured a presentation outlining the roadmap and key milestones for the implementation of the E-Invoicing Initiative.
According to the FIRS, the initiative is designed to automate invoicing processes, reduce tax evasion, and improve accountability in business transactions across sectors.
A key highlight of the session was the emphasis on collaboration between FIRS and other major stakeholders, including the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), Nigeria Customs Service, financial institutions, and taxpayers. This multi-agency approach underscores FIRS’s commitment to using technology and strategic partnerships to modernize tax administration.
“The initiative reflects our dedication to driving transparency, improving operational efficiency, and encouraging voluntary tax compliance,” the agency stated.
The E-Invoicing system is expected to play a vital role in streamlining transaction tracking and fostering a more accountable commercial environment nationwide.
