Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been placed in Group F of the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where they will face Colombia, Saudi Arabia, and Norway.
The official draw took place in Santiago, Chile, ahead of the tournament, which will run from September 27 to October 19.
Nigeria qualified for the tournament after securing third place at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Egypt. The Flying Eagles are two-time U-20 World Cup finalists, finishing as runners-up in 1989 and 2005. However, their last outing in Chile during the 1987 edition saw them exit at the group stage following defeats to Brazil and Italy and a draw with Canada.
Other African representatives will face tough challenges in their respective groups. U-20 AFCON champions South Africa are in Group E with France, New Caledonia, and the United States. Runners-up Morocco face a daunting Group C featuring Brazil, Mexico, and Spain, while Egypt will compete in Group A alongside tournament hosts Chile, Japan, and New Zealand.
According to the tournament format, the top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the Round of 16.
Ghana remains the only African nation to have won the U-20 World Cup, lifting the trophy in 2009 on home soil in Egypt.
