Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has filed a clinical negligence lawsuit against the club, alleging that improper medical advice during his time at Old Trafford negatively impacted his career.
According to Sky Sports, the 27-year-old lodged the claim on July 9, accusing the club of medical mismanagement that contributed to ongoing injury issues. Tuanzebe, who came through United’s youth ranks and made 37 first-team appearances, left the club two years ago after his contract expired.
His injury struggles began in 2019 with a hip problem sustained during a warm-up before a match against Liverpool. Later that year, he suffered another injury in a Carabao Cup game against Colchester United, which sidelined him for the rest of the season. More fitness setbacks followed, including a foot injury that delayed his return to full training until January 2023.
He was loaned to Stoke City in 2023 to regain match fitness and later revived his career at Ipswich Town, helping them earn promotion to the Premier League in the 2023/24 season with over 40 appearances. In June 2025, Tuanzebe signed with Burnley on a free transfer after turning down a contract extension from Ipswich.
Now representing DR Congo at the international level, Tuanzebe’s legal action highlights increasing concerns about how football clubs manage player injuries and long-term health.
