Ganduje To Lamido: PDP Is Dead, APC Ready For 2027

              Abdullahi Ganduje

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has firmly denied rumours that he plans to defect to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the PDP is a “dead party” while the APC is poised for a dominant performance in the 2027 elections.

Ganduje’s response comes after comments made by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who predicted the collapse of the APC and the return of former PDP members like Ganduje. Speaking on Sunday, Lamido said, “I’m confident that all those who left the PDP will return, including Ganduje, because very soon, the APC will burst and split into factions, having accommodated people with different mindsets.”

“I repeat: within six months, all those who defected to the APC will come back, and the PDP will rise with full force to wrest power in 2027,” Lamido added.

In a statement released on Monday by his Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje dismissed Lamido’s remarks as baseless and lacking credibility. He insisted he has no reason to leave the ruling APC, which he described as a vibrant, growing political force.

“Rather than me rejoining the PDP, it will be Sule Lamido who will soon have no choice but to join the APC,” Ganduje stated. “The PDP is in terminal decline and will likely go extinct by the end of 2025, given the party’s internal disarray and lack of direction.”

The APC chairman pointed to the wave of defections into the party under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as evidence of its growing strength and nationwide support. “With such momentum, we are focused on consolidating our gains and preparing for a landslide victory in 2027,” he said.

Ganduje reaffirmed his pride in leading the APC and reiterated his commitment to promoting internal democracy and good governance. He advised Lamido to focus on resolving the deep-seated problems within the PDP instead of making “irrational” predictions.
