Global Recognition for NNPC as Bayo Ojulari Bags Top Energy Industry Honour

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has recorded a significant milestone in its global repositioning as its Group Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, was conferred with the prestigious Fellowship of the Energy Institute, United Kingdom.

The Fellowship, regarded as one of the highest professional honours in the global energy industry, is awarded to senior energy leaders who have demonstrated sustained and high-impact contributions to the advancement of the sector. It was formally conferred during International Energy Week in London.

NNPC Limited disclosed the honour in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, noting that the recognition is expected to further boost investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. International Energy Week is a leading global platform for discussions on energy policy, finance, and industry leadership.

The Fellowship was presented by the President of the Energy Institute, Andy Brown, who praised Ojulari for his transformative leadership of Nigeria’s national energy company.

According to Brown, the recognition acknowledges Ojulari’s role in shaping NNPC Limited’s enterprise-wide strategic direction, strengthening governance and operational discipline, embedding a performance-driven culture, and repositioning the company for profitability and long-term value creation.

Under his leadership, NNPC Limited has pursued investor-focused reforms, improved execution excellence, and expanded strategic global partnerships—developments that have strengthened confidence in Nigeria’s energy sector.

The statement added that beyond its personal significance, the Fellowship represents a strong institutional endorsement of NNPC Limited’s ongoing transformation into a commercially focused, transparent, and globally competitive energy company. It also signals growing international confidence in the leadership driving the company’s reform agenda and alignment with global best practices in governance, sustainability, and energy transition management.

The recognition comes as the Federal Government intensifies reforms aimed at boosting oil production, expanding gas utilisation, and strengthening the commercial viability of NNPC Limited to enhance government revenue. Since the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, the company has undertaken wide-ranging corporate governance reforms, operational restructuring, and partnerships with global investors to improve efficiency and transparency.

The Fellowship further affirms NNPC Limited’s growing reputation as a credible, reform-oriented, and investment-ready energy enterprise, reinforcing its role as a key driver of Africa’s energy security and transition ambitions.

“Under Ojulari’s leadership, NNPC Limited remains committed to delivering sustainable value, strengthening Nigeria’s energy security, and positioning itself as a trusted global energy partner,” the statement concluded.
