Gov. Soludo Clears UBE Grant Backlog, Unlocks Access To 2022–2024 Education Funds

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has successfully cleared a three-year backlog of Universal Basic Education (UBE) matching grants from 2019 to 2021, positioning the state to access the 2022, 2023, and 2024 Federal Government education grants.

This was revealed by the Chairperson of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, during a midterm progress briefing on Friday. She noted that the state had been unable to access previous grants due to its failure to meet counterpart funding requirements—until Governor Soludo intervened.

“Prior to his assumption of office in March 2022, Anambra had outstanding UBE grants for three consecutive years,” Nwadinobi said. “To unlock newer funds, Governor Soludo approved and paid the arrears, ensuring Anambra meets all requirements for future disbursements.”

She praised the governor’s commitment to education, noting that clearing the backlog under three years demonstrates Soludo’s strategic focus on delivering quality basic education with measurable results.

ASUBEB also confirmed that Anambra recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) on June 16. This move enabled the state’s participation in a high-level UBEC training on new funding templates held in Abuja from June 19–20, 2025.

“With this momentum,” Nwadinobi added, “Anambra is back to winning ways and ready to fully implement impactful UBE projects for the benefit of children across the state.”
