Gunmen Storm Ondo Church, Abduct Six Worshippers

Gunmen have abducted six worshippers from a Celestial Church located along the Owo–Akure Expressway in Uso, within Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers stormed the church during a night service, causing panic among congregants before forcibly taking several members away.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident in a statement. He said the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at about 12:50 a.m., adding that the victims were taken to an unknown location.

Jimoh stated that security operatives, working alongside the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, swiftly responded after receiving the report and launched a coordinated rescue operation.

He disclosed that one of the abducted worshippers has since been rescued, while a suspected informant connected to the incident has been arrested and is assisting investigators.

Security operations, he added, are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible.

The police spokesperson urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to support security agencies with credible and actionable information that could aid ongoing efforts.
