Haze And Sunshine Expected Nationwide As Nimet Releases Three-Day Forecast

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of haze and sunshine across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, NiMet predicted predominantly sunny and hazy conditions over the northern region throughout the forecast period.

For the southern region, the agency expects sunny skies with patches of cloud, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states later in the day.

On Thursday, NiMet said sunny and hazy conditions would persist across the northern and central regions, while the south would experience sunny intervals with patches of cloud. Morning thunderstorms with light rain are expected over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

Later in the day, thunderstorms are forecast over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states.

By Friday, the agency anticipates sunny and hazy skies over the northern region during the morning hours, with dust haze developing in the afternoon and evening. The central region is expected to experience similar sunny and hazy conditions throughout the day.

In the south, NiMet forecasts cloudy skies with sunny intervals in the morning, alongside chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rain over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.

NiMet warned that dust particles remain in suspension over parts of the North-Central region and advised the public to take necessary precautions. People with asthma and other respiratory conditions were urged to be particularly cautious.

The agency also advised motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and encouraged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning.
