Ibas To Monarchs: Safeguard Government Assets In Your Communities

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has urged traditional rulers across the state to strengthen their efforts in protecting public infrastructure within their domains.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Friday at the opening of the 121st and 122nd Combined Quarterly General Meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Ibas emphasized the critical role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and safeguarding government assets.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika, Ibas reminded the royal fathers of their status as custodians of culture and pillars of community stability. He called on them to take active steps to prevent theft and vandalism of public facilities in their areas.

“Upon assuming office as Sole Administrator, I engaged with you at Government House to seek your support in promoting peace and order in our state,” Ibas said. “As the African proverb goes, when the roots of a tree begin to decay, it spreads death to the branches. You, our revered traditional rulers, are those roots—guardians of heritage and stabilisers of our communities.”

He further noted, “Our communities face numerous challenges—security threats, economic pressures, social unrest—but just as rain does not fall on one roof alone, we must face these challenges together. Unity remains our greatest strength.”

Ibas also warned that his administration will not protect any traditional ruler found to be involved in acts that disrupt public peace. He reiterated his willingness to collaborate with the traditional institution on initiatives that contribute to the state’s progress.

In his response, the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Chike Amadi Worlu-Wodo, Eze Oha Apara IV of Apara Kingdom, expressed appreciation for the Administrator’s commitment to peace and development, and thanked him for attending the council meeting.
