The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Thursday searched the residence of Nasir El-Rufai, a former governor of Kaduna State.
The development was disclosed by El-Rufai’s media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye. His lawyer, Ubong Akpan, condemned the action, describing it as unlawful and a violation of due process and fundamental rights.
In a post confirming the operation, Adekeye stated that El-Rufai’s residence was searched by the ICPC on Thursday.
The ICPC later confirmed that the former governor is currently in its custody.
Earlier reports revealed that El-Rufai was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) shortly after he was granted bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday.
According to sources, the DSS action followed allegations that El-Rufai unlawfully intercepted phone communications belonging to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
