ICPC detains ex-Kaduna governor El-Rufai after EFCC custody

After spending two days in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has been detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

El-Rufai was first detained by the EFCC in Abuja on Monday after honouring an invitation from the commission over ongoing investigations linked to a petition submitted by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Confirming the development, ICPC spokesperson, John Okor Odey, said in a statement issued on Wednesday night that the former governor was in the custody of the anti-graft agency as of the close of work on February 18, 2026.

According to the statement, El-Rufai is being held in connection with ongoing investigations, although the commission did not disclose further details.

According to Tribune Online, the probe may be connected to the failed Kaduna light rail project.
