Security operatives in Ogun State have arrested individuals suspected to be officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), along with a politician, over alleged plans to buy votes ahead of the state’s by-election.
The arrests took place on Saturday at a hotel in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area.
A viral video showed two people, identified as a man and a woman believed to be INEC officials, being questioned by security agents while squatting. Several individuals alleged to be members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were also seen at the scene.
During the interrogation, a security officer alleged that intelligence reports indicated the INEC officials had been contacted and paid a large sum of money by party representatives to influence the election.
