Renowned Nigerian-American author Nnedi Okorafor has sparked discussion online after calling for the introduction of dress codes in gyms, citing concerns over increasingly revealing workout attire.
In a candid Facebook post, the award-winning writer expressed frustration at what she described as “flimsy clothes designed to accentuate curves,” which she believes can be distracting and uncomfortable for others.
“There needs to be a dress code at the gym. I don’t even care who gets offended by me saying this anymore,” she wrote.
Addressing a common response to such concerns, she added: “And the whole ‘look somewhere else’ excuse is nonsense when someone’s gigantic backside, in barely any clothes, is jiggling in your face as you look up to take a breath. It’s awful—no modesty.”
Her post has drawn mixed reactions online, with some supporting her stance on modesty and others defending the right to wear what one feels comfortable in at the gym.
