JAMB, Vcs Agree On 150 As Minimum Cut-Off For Varsity Admissions

At its 2025 policy meeting held on Tuesday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and heads of tertiary institutions agreed to set the minimum admission cut-off mark for universities at 150.

This means no university in Nigeria is permitted to admit candidates who scored below 150 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

However, some top institutions — including the University of Ibadan, Pan-Atlantic University, and the University of Lagos — have opted for higher benchmarks, setting their cut-off at 200.

In contrast, a few newly established private universities proposed admission scores as low as 120.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, recommended a middle ground of 160 for institutions looking to balance competitiveness and access.
