The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) has set up seven designated safe centres for residents living in flood-prone areas across the state. These centres are fully equipped with tents, food, non-food items, and essential supplies to support the temporary relocation of at-risk individuals during the anticipated 2025 flood season.
Dr. Usman Hayatu Mazadu, the agency’s Executive Secretary, announced the development during a high-level consultative meeting on flood preparedness, held on Wednesday in Kaduna.
“We have established seven safe haven centres ready for the temporary relocation of at-risk populations,” he said, stressing the urgency of proactive disaster response.
Mazadu underscored the importance of collective responsibility in disaster management, stating, “Preparedness is not the job of one agency; it is a shared responsibility.”
He outlined several measures already undertaken by KADSEMA, including intensive stakeholder sensitization across vulnerable communities and the pre-positioning of emergency resources to ensure a rapid and coordinated response.
“In the past six weeks, we’ve conducted wide-scale sensitization efforts in collaboration with other agencies,” he noted.
To ensure accountability and cooperation, Mazadu said the agency would host a session where stakeholders would present their individual preparedness strategies, helping to identify gaps and align solutions.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Uba Sani’s administration to protecting lives and property, emphasizing that public safety and security remain top priorities in Kaduna’s disaster management agenda.
