Kaizer Chiefs Step Up Pursuit Of Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali

South African giants Kaizer Chiefs F.C. have reportedly renewed their pursuit of Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as they seek to reinforce their squad ahead of the new season.

The Soweto-based side previously tracked the 29-year-old during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he impressed for the Nigeria national football team and played a key role in securing a third-place finish.

Since parting ways with Chippa United F.C. earlier this year, Nwabali has been a free agent, increasing his appeal on the transfer market. Reports suggest that Chiefs have now tabled an offer to sign him on a permanent deal.

The shot-stopper has earned plaudits both in the Nigerian Professional Football League and on the international stage for his commanding presence, sharp reflexes, and composure under pressure, establishing himself as one of Nigeria’s most dependable goalkeepers in recent years.

Chiefs are in the midst of a squad rebuild aimed at restoring their competitiveness in South African football, and Nwabali’s experience and leadership are viewed as valuable additions to a defence that has struggled for consistency.

The club’s renewed interest also comes amid uncertainty over first-choice goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, who recently underwent an appendectomy after falling ill. His recovery is expected to sideline him for several weeks, forcing the team to rely on alternative options.

During Petersen’s absence, Bruce Bvuma featured in the recent Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates F.C., where Chiefs suffered a 3-0 defeat, further denting their hopes in the Betway Premiership title race.
